Ajiwau Kyoto, a media company that introduces vegan and vegetarian food and souvenirs in Kyoto, has selected "Vegan and Vegetarian Friendly Souvenirs in Kyoto - New Standard! 〜Here are five “Kyoto Vegan and Vegetarian Souvenirs” selected by Ajiwau Kyoto.
We have selected five souvenirs that are fun to look at, that include new souvenirs proposed by long-established companies and those with attractive package designs. We hope you enjoy them all!
1. 【Vegan】A new form of Yatsuhashi niki niki Kanele
Yatsuhashi is a classic souvenir of Kyoto, and Shogoin Yatsuhashi Sohonten, which has been in business for more than 330 years, created nikiniki as a brand that proposes a new way to enjoy Yatsuhashi. The thinly baked Yatsuhashi is rolled up like a cinnamon stick. The light texture gives you a taste of traditional yatsuhashi. There are two kinds of Yatsuhashi: cinnamon and coffee. The coffee flavor has a bitter, adult flavor with a hint of bitterness. It would be a good snack with coffee or whiskey.

2. 【Vegan】The Best Yokan for Coffee
Yokan is a traditional Japanese Sweets which is a jelly made from Azuki beans.
This is a new type of yokan proposed by a long-established anko (bean paste) shop in Kyoto, ”Toshoan". The yokan dough based on Koshian (sweet red bean paste) is kneaded with figs, apricots, and walnuts. It is truly a fusion of tradition and novelty.
This “yokan for coffee” was developed in collaboration with Blue bottle coffee. They recommend pairing it with shallow roasted fruity coffee. The long shelf life is another attraction of yokan.

3. 【Vegan】Handmade Monaka Hamsters to enjoy after you return home
Aoki Koetsudo, a long-established confectionery wholesaler in Kyoto, proposes making your own monaka. The crispy and aromatic skin of the monaka is made from selected glutinous rice produced in Toyama Prefecture. The bean paste inside is a special sweet red bean paste made from Hokkaido azuki beans. The process is very simple. Just place a generous amount of red bean paste on the crispy skin of the monaka, top with nuts of your choice, and you are done. It is a good product for various occasions, such as making it with your children or giving it as a souvenir to your loved ones. 5. 【Vegetarian】For a simple, easy, and luxurious breakfast! Sliced Yokan
Sliced Yokan“ proposed by Kameya Ryoucho, a Kyoto-based confectioner with a history of more than 200 years, is a sheet of Yokan that becomes hot ”Ogura Butter Toast" when placed on bread and baked. The melt-in-your-mouth Tanba Dainagon azuki bean jelly is perfectly balanced with the richly flavored butter yokan with Okinawan salt. The topping is also topped with fragrant poppy seeds, which accentuate the texture and aroma. The sheet of yokan can be placed on a piece of bread and baked to create a hot “Ogura Butter Toast”. The aroma of the bread blends with the gentle sweetness of the yokan, creating a luxurious dish.
